For Hingham Institution for Savings, protecting customer information and preventing fraud isn't just a responsibility, it's at the core of our identity. We understand the financial and emotional distress fraud can cause, and we view safeguarding your hard-earned money as a fundamental commitment.

While we have and security measures in place to help detect and deter fraudulent activity both during business hours and outside of business hours, you can help detect and prevent fraud by using the account alert features we offer.

The account alerts outlined below are just a few of the alerts that can be used to quickly identify any suspicious activity that may occur on your account(s).

Prompt notification of suspicious activity will allow you, and us, to take action quickly.

Account alerts for fraud protection

Security Alerts

  • Online banking log in - you will receive a notification each time someone logs in to your online banking. If you do not recognize the log in, contact us right away so we can take steps to protect your information.

  • Invalid log on attempt for online banking - similar to the log in successful alert, setting up this alert will provide you quick notification of any failed attempts to access your online banking. If you do not recognize the incorrect log in, contact us right away.

Debit Card Alerts

  • Debit card transaction over threshold - you will receive a notification of each debit card transaction over your defined threshold. We encourage you to set a realistic threshold amount. If you do not typically use your debit card for purchases greater than $500, set the threshold at $500, so that any debit card purchases over your normal spending amount will generate an alert. If you do not frequently use your debit card, setting a threshold of .01 will notify you of all future debit card transactions greater than a penny.

Balance Alerts

  • Account balance below threshold - you will receive a notification if your account balance falls below your defined threshold. We encourage you to set a threshold that is meaningful to you and your typical account balances.

  • Account was overdrawn - you will receive a notification if your account balance becomes negative for any reason.

Transaction Alerts

  • Transaction over threshold - you will receive a notification of each transaction over your defined threshold. We encourage you to set a realistic threshold amount. For example: if you do not typically withdrawal over $1,000, set the threshold at $1,000, so that any transactions outside of your typical account activity will generate an alert.
