How to prevent fraud and how we protect, detect, and respond to debit card risks

For Hingham Institution for Savings, protecting customer information and preventing fraud isn't just a responsibility, it's at the core of our identity. We understand the financial and emotional distress fraud can cause, and we view safeguarding your hard-earned money as a fundamental commitment.

Our team and security measures are in place to help detect and deter fraudulent activity both during business hours and outside of business hours.

Here are some systems we've put in place to help protect your accounts:

  • Advanced fraud monitoring that uses predictive automation looking for any indication of possible fraud on all debit card activity 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

  • Our team is available to investigate unauthorized transaction(s) on your account when you contact us at 781-749-2200 or complete the debit card dispute form.

  • To report your debit card as lost or stolen or to respond to a fraud alert after hours using our automated line which is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, please call 855-456-0019.

  • The Hingham Savings Mobile Card App is available to quickly shut off your card if the need arises. The My Cards app provides an additional layer of security around your Hingham Savings debit card by allowing you to manage your card settings.   • Real time alert notifications to warn of potential fraud sent via text message, automated phone call or email.

    • Call or Text Notifications begin at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time (EST) and cease at 9:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST).

Additionally, you can help prevent fraud using the following tips:

  • Never save your debit card information online

  • Never share your debit card number, PIN, or the security code from the back of your card with anyone

  • Never click on links from unexpected emails or text messages

  • Only make transactions on secure websites and when your internet connection is secure

  • Enroll in Mobile Banking and the My Cards app to receive notifications of posting transactions. Learn More about the My Cards app by clicking here.
