What is Zelle® for Small Business?

Zelle® is a fast, secure, and easy way for small businesses to send, receive, and request money directly between bank accounts in the U.S., typically within minutes. If your customers use Zelle® within their financial institution’s banking app, they can send payments directly to your Hingham Institution for Savings business account using just your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number.

How do I enroll my small business account in Zelle®?

To get started, log in to Online Banking or the Hingham Institution for Savings mobile banking app.

  1. Go to the main menu and select Transfers and Payments.

  2. Select Send Money with Zelle®.

  3. Accept the Terms and Conditions.

  4. Select the email address or U.S. mobile number and deposit account you would like to use.

  5. Enter the one-time verification code sent to your phone or email.

Once verified, you are ready to start sending, receiving, and requesting payments.

How do I tell my customers that they can pay me with Zelle®?

There are several easy ways to let your customers know you accept Zelle®:

  • Tell them directly: Inform customers verbally that they can pay you directly from their existing banking app using Zelle®.

  • Include it on invoices: Add a line on your billing statements such as "I accept payments with Zelle®" or "Pay me with Zelle®" along with your enrolled email address or U.S. mobile number.

  • Send a payment request: Use the "Request" feature in Zelle® to send a payment request directly to your customer's mobile number or email.

Are there any fees to use Zelle® with a small business account?

No, Hingham Institution for Savings does not charge any fees to use Zelle® with an eligible small business account. Your mobile carrier’s messaging and data rates may apply.

How do I know if my small business is eligible to use Zelle®?

Eligible small business accounts can use Zelle® directly within online or mobile banking. Simply log in, select Transfers and Payments, and click Send Money with Zelle®. If you do not see the option available or have questions about your account type, please call our customer support team at 781-749-2200.

Does Zelle® or Hingham Institution for Savings offer purchase protection?

Neither Hingham Institution for Savings nor Zelle® offers purchase protection for payments made with Zelle® – for example, if you do not receive the item or service you paid for, or it is not as expected. Only send money to people and small businesses you trust, and always double-check the recipient's email address or U.S. mobile number before sending funds.

Can I reverse or cancel a payment?

No, Zelle® payments cannot be reversed. You can only cancel a pending payment if the consumer or business you sent money to has not yet enrolled with Zelle®.

To check if a payment is pending:

  1. Go to your Zelle® Activity page.

  2. Choose the payment you wish to cancel.

  3. Select Stop Payment.

If the recipient has already enrolled with Zelle®, the funds are transferred directly into their account and cannot be canceled. If you sent money to the wrong recipient, please immediately call customer support at 781-749-2200.

How do I use a Zelle® QR code with my small business account?

Zelle® QR codes provide a fast, error-free way for customers to pay you without typing out an email address or mobile number.

  • To locate and share your QR code: Log in to mobile or online banking, select Transfers and Payments, click Send Money with Zelle®, and navigate to Zelle® Settings. Click Zelle® QR code to view your unique code under "My Code". You can print this code to display at your point of sale, or share it via text or email.

  • To send money via QR code: Click Send Money with Zelle®, click Send, then tap the QR code icon at the top of the "Select Recipient" screen. Point your device camera at the recipient's Zelle® QR code, enter the payment amount, confirm the recipient details, and send.

Can I use Zelle® internationally?

No. In order to use Zelle®, both the sender's and recipient's bank or credit union accounts must be located within the United States.

Is my business information secure?

Keeping your business funds and account details secure is a top priority for Hingham Institution for Savings. When using Zelle® in mobile or online banking, your transactions are protected with the same advanced security standards used for your bank accounts.

I believe my business has been targeted by a scam. Whom should I contact?

Please contact our customer support team immediately at 781-749-2200. Qualifying imposter scams may be eligible for reimbursement.
