What is Zelle®?
Zelle® is a fast and easy way to send and receive money directly between bank accounts in the U.S., typically within minutes. By linking a U.S. mobile number or email address to your existing bank account, you can exchange funds securely without sharing sensitive account details. Zelle® is intended for personal transactions between friends, family, and others you know and trust, moving money directly from one domestic bank account to another.
How do I enroll in Zelle®?
To get started, log in to Online Banking or the Hingham Institution for Savings mobile app. Select Transfers and Payments from the main menu, then choose Zelle® to complete a quick, one-time enrollment.
For more detailed instructions, please visit our Enrolling in Zelle® article.
How long does it take for my recipient to receive funds?
Most Zelle® transfers are processed within minutes, however not all payments are delivered instantly. There are three delivery speeds - instant, next day, and 3 day standard. Delivery speed is dependent on whether or not the recipient is registered in the Zelle® network, and whether or not they have a bank account that allows for same day transfers. The cut-off time for Standard (Next-Day) and Standard (3-Day) is 10:00 p.m. PT
Instant: Both the sender and the contact have Instant-capable accounts.
Next Day: The sender has an Instant-capable account but the receiver does not, or the sender selects a future date to send the payment
Standard 3-Day: The sender does not have an Instant- capable account.
Is there a limit on the amount I can send/receive through Zelle®?
Send/Request Money: $5 minimum per transaction
Transaction and Daily Limit: $1,000
Monthly Limit: $3,000
Sending Money: 15 transactions per day, 30 transactions per month
Request Money: 30 transactions per day, 30 transactions per month
Note: There are no limits on incoming transfers that you did not request. If another Zelle® user sends you money, then their transfer limit is determined by their financial institution. If you are requesting money from another Zelle® user, please refer to the above limits.
I use Zelle® with a different financial institution. Can I use the same email or phone number associated with the other bank?
Each email and/or phone number can only be linked to one bank account at a time. If you currently have an email linked with an account at a different bank, you may choose to switch that email over to your Hingham account during enrollment. You can also choose to use a different email and/or phone number with your Hingham account to keep things separate.
Can I use Zelle® with a business account?
Yes! We now offer Zelle® for Small Business. Eligible small business accounts can send, receive, and request money right inside mobile or online banking.
