External Accounts in Q2

How to add external accounts and transfer funds in the new online banking system

Written by James Leeson

You can transfer money to a domestic (U.S.) bank account that you own at another financial institution without writing a check or visiting a branch by Enrolling in Personal Online Banking.

Once enrolled, log into Personal Online click Transfers & Payments and then Manage External Accounts.

Add a New Account

  1. On the Manage External Accounts page, click either Link via Instant Verification or click Link via Micro-Deposits

Note: If neither button opens an enrollment window, please ensure your browser is set to allow cookies and pop-ups or try clearing your browser's cookies and cache.

    1. Instant Verification: Click Link via Instant Verification to launch Plaid and log into your online account with the other financial institution

      1. Enter your phone number or click Continue without phone number

      2. Search for and Select your institution

      3. Click Continue to login

      4. Log in using your credentials for the external financial institution

    2. Micro-Deposits: Click Link via Micro-Deposits to send two small deposits of less than $1.00 into your external account within 1 to 3 business days

      1. Submit your Routing Number, Account Number, and Account Type

      2. Once you have received the two small deposits into your external account, return to the Manage External Accounts page and click Verify

Note: If micro-deposits aren't verified within 3 business days, they expire, and you will need to start the process over.

      3. Type in the micro-deposit amounts you saw in the external account

Note: You do not need to enter the decimal point (.) or the dollar sign ($). Only enter the two deposit amounts that credited your external account and do not enter the combined withdrawal amount that debited the account.

  2. Your external account will now appear in the Linked Accounts section of the Manage External Accounts page

Note: Click Edit on a Linked Account to add a nickname and click Remove to delete it
