How Hingham Insures Your Deposits (FDIC and DIF)

Learn how combined FDIC and DIF coverage provides 100% insurance on all deposits.

Written by John Lauterhahn

Founded in 1834, Hingham Institution for Savings provides complete protection on all deposit balances through combined federal and state-level coverage. Every dollar deposited with us is insured in full—regardless of the amount, account type, or where you reside.

How Combined Coverage Works:

  • Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC): Insures all deposits up to $250,000 per depositor.

  • Depositors Insurance Fund (DIF): Insures all funds above $250,000 in full, with no maximum limit or account restrictions.

About the DIF

Both the FDIC and DIF have protected bank deposits for nearly a century. The DIF predates the formation of the FDIC and remains the only private, state-chartered excess deposit insurer in the nation.
