Updating Your Legal Name

Submit required documentation and authorization to update your legal name across your Hingham accounts.

Written by John Lauterhahn

Due to life events or legal updates, you may need to update the name on your Hingham accounts. We process name updates resulting from marriage, divorce, court orders, or spelling corrections.

To submit a request, complete our electronic form below or visit one of our branch locations.

Required Documentation:

As you fill out the request form linked below, please be sure to include the appropriate documentation:

  • Marriage: Certified marriage certificate or signed Social Security card.

  • Divorce: Divorce decree explicitly authorizing resumption of former name, court order, or signed Social Security card.

  • Court Order: Certified court order confirming legal name change or signed Social Security card.

  • Misspelled Name: Valid government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or passport) or signed Social Security card.

Please note: It is your responsibility to legally change your name with Social Security before filling out a name change request form. Failure to legally change your name will delay the name change process.

If you are not looking to change your name, but want to add a new signer to an account or have any other questions about the process, please email or call us at 781-749-2200.
